BES are authorized consultants able to help you with the BC Hydro Custom Project program. Funding options are distributed in accordance with the project type.

Our team can assist you from the application process, through design and following installation should you be eligible to apply. Funding is available across the following aspects of the project:

• Design,

• Equipment,

• Installation,

• Disposal of old equipment, and

• Taxes

Energy-efficiency improvements

These improvements can include equipment upgrades, new designs or expansions to existing buildings. Load displacement projects can also be supported for installations of private renewable electricity generation equipment to offset energy.

Distribution customers may receive 2-5₵ per kWh per year of energy savings or load displacements. The incentives are dependent on the payback period for the project.

Transmission customers may receive 4.5₵ per kWh per year.

Electrification (low carbon)

Options to switch from fossil fuel systems to clean electric or projects that shift usage are included and incentives are calculated per case.

Demand response

Reduce or shift energy use during specific timeframes within your system as a response to energy demands.

$50-$75 per kW of demand reduced is available for funding. The incentive awarded is dependent on the project opportunity or program participation.

Many applicants would undertake a feasibility study which can be 100% funded, to understand if the project scope is feasible in the first instance. For those who don’t have a study, other options can be available where BC Hydro will provide the technical requirements for our team to complete.

You can then make your application, following which a review of engineering and financial factors are taken into account. Once that process is complete, an agreement package is sent over which includes the incentives available for your project.

After those steps have been completed and the agreement package signed, you can begin the purchase and installation of your project. When you receive the invoicing, you’ll need to send those in alongside your documents to process the incentive.

To be eligible, you must be a large industrial customer on a distribution or transmission rate, or you are a commercial customer with an annual energy usage of 2GWh or more.

• If you’re applying for the energy-efficiency improvements, the energy usage must be 25,000 kWh per year.

• Industrial low-carbon electrification projects must have an energy consumption greater than 200,00kWh per year. Commercial projects of this kind are advised to directly get in touch with us to understand if the consumption rate is eligible.

• Demand response projects require a minimum of 25kW of energy consumption.

Your project must also involve a hard-wired facility upgrade of one or more energy opportunities, and the site must have been in operation for a minimum of 6 months, be new or be planning an extension which will increase energy consumption by over 10%.
