BC Hydro and FortisBC are working together in partnership to provide the Continuous Optimization (C-Op) Program to reduce greenhouse gas (GhG) emissions and reduce operational costs for applicants.

The aim of the program is to improve overall energy efficiency and extend equipment life. The extension of equipment is considered in terms of long-term improvement to affect the cost and energy use of everyday operations.

The program offers low-cost energy solutions for commercial clients without them having to commit to a large investment. This includes the recommissioning consultation and provides the well-needed funding for applicants to make energy-intensive systems more efficient. 

The program looks at what assets are using the most energy within a building/facility and then seeks way to reduce the energy use and make it more efficient.

There is a process of periodic recommissioning, which essentially means that improvements that are applied are monitored periodically, to ensure they continue to improve and work as they should.

Energy intensive areas to focus on usually include heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) operations and lighting systems.

The program is aimed at improving larger commercial buildings, institutions or facilities.

If you own or are a long-term leaseholder of a building like this, as well as:

• A FortisBC Commercial rate class natural gas (and/or electricity including municipality electricity) customer with at least 1 year of billing history,

• have a BC hydro account manager with at least 1 year of billing history with BC Hydro,

• are not already planning any renovations or upgrades for the next 12 months, and

• have an existing Direct Digital Control (DDC) building automation system with remote access.
